The situation of junior mining firms as they attempt to secure and maintain their "social licence to operate "-- as well as obtain legal approvals and ensure continued compliance re: environmental, social, financial and governance issues -- is not well understood. And yet juniors play an extremely important role in the extractive sector, largely operating in the shadows of their larger multinational counterparts. Fortunately, Amiel Blajchman, a former junior mining official who has held senior CSR-type positions in three such firms, is well positioned to provide us with insights concerning the distinctive nature of the sector, and to improve our understanding of present and future Environmental, Social and Governance-oriented challenges. Moderating the session will be Dr. Kernaghan Webb, Director of the Ryerson CSR Institute.
This talk is co-sponsored by the Ryerson Corporate Social Responsibility Student Association, the Ryerson Commerce and Government Association, and the Ryerson Law and Business Student Association. Support for the "In conversation" sessions from the Trade Commissioner Service of Global Affairs Canada is also gratefully acknowledged.
