The 5 panelists in this event are responsible for supporting community investment programs in their respective companies (TD Cda Trust, Kinross Gold, Bell Canada, IAMGOLD, DUCA Credit Union). Through their stories we will learn about their programs, current challenges, opportunities and trends in community investment, and the variety of interests that drive community investment initiatives. The Ryerson CSR Institute is pleased to co-organize this talk with SIMPACT Strategy Group.

Mary Deacon is Chair of the Bell Mental Health Initiative, a $50 million commitment to enhancing the lives of Canadians by increasing awareness, understanding and treatment of mental illness across the country. Over the last 25 year years she has held a series of senior positions in the not-for –profit sector including almost a decade as the inaugural President of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation – Canada’s largest mental health hospital. Mary has a Bachelor of Arts degree and is Certified Fund Raising Executive of the Association (CFRE) from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Foundation for Canada.
Natasha Alleyne Martin is the Manager of National Programs, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation where she manages programs that engage employees, customers and communities – including the bank's flagship volunteer program TD Tree Days. Prior to joining TD FEF, Natasha worked in the Corporate Responsibility Practice at Edelman, where she developed and managed cause marketing and CSR programs for leading brands. Prior to Edelman, Natasha managed marketing and communications at Habitat for Humanity Toronto.
Ed Optiz is the Vice President, Corporate Responsibility at Kinross Gold Corporation (since his appointment n 2010), where he now oversees operational implementation of the company’s policies on stakeholder engagement. Ed Opitz has been with Kinross Gold Corporation since 1999 in varying roles, including Vice President - Environmental Affairs and Vice President - Environment, Health, Safety, Sustainability, and Permitting for Kinross’ Russian operations.
Aaron Steeghs is the Director, Corporate Social Responsibility at IAMGOLD, where he addresses issues such as CSR Strategy, Impact Benefit Agreement Negotiations and First Nations consultation, human rights strategy, as well as partnership, reputation, and industry initiative management. Prior to assuming the Directorship responsibilities, Aaron was IAMGOLD’s CSR Manager, and prior to that Aaron worked with other mining companies and the CBSR. He has an International MBA from Schulich School of Business and an MA in International Development Studies from Dalhousie.
Keith Taylor leads the Corporate Social Responsibility function at DUCA Financial Services Credit Union. Prior to DUCA, Keith worked in consulting at the SiMPACT Strategy group, specializing in corporate community investment advisory work on a range of projects such as program strategy, performance measurement and reporting frameworks. Keith has advised community investment teams at companies such as RBC, TD, Canadian Tire and others.
