Cheers to the Class of 2025: TMU prepares for Spring Convocation
The class of 2025 prepares to cross the stage and celebrate a major milestone during TMU’s Spring Convocation.
From June 17 - 25, the Mattamy Athletic Centre will host TMU's Spring Convocation ceremonies for the Class of 2025. Graduates will cross the stage in front of family, friends and peers to formally receive their degrees and mark the culmination of their degrees at the university.
This year TMU is celebrating 8,501 students across 14 ceremonies. Of those, 7,042 are undergraduate students, 148 are law students, 590 are graduate students and 721 are continuing education students.
"On behalf of Toronto Metropolitan University, I offer my warmest congratulations to the Class of 2025! This moment is a testament to your grit, resilience and determination,” said President Mohamed Lachemi.
“As you embark on this next chapter, I'm confident you will shape a bold future and leave a lasting impact as innovators, leaders and changemakers in our society."
TMU prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive community. This year’s graduating class includes 947 international students from 47 countries, including Guyana, Peru, Japan, Egypt and beyond
More than 1,000 grads lived on campus while completing their studies, and 24 played varsity sports.
TMU will also award 11 honorary doctorates at the Spring Convocation ceremonies to people who have made extraordinary contributions to academia and/or society.
Attendees will hear remarks from one of the honorary doctorates or a distinguished speaker. Learn more about this year’s honorees and find out who will be speaking at your ceremony.
Preparing for your big day

Floral arrangements will be available for purchase at the main entrance of the Mattamy Athletic Centre. If you would like to order flowers in advance, please visit the Commencement Group (external link) .
As you cross the stage, Chancellor Donette Chin-Loy Chang, President Lachemi and other faculty will be there to congratulate you. A photographer from Gradimages (external link) will take your photo during this moment and while you exit the stage.
Each graduate can bring up to four guests. For those who cannot attend in person, each ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube (external link) .
Parking can be challenging during convocation. Plan ahead by reviewing parking instructions and directions.
Dress for success
Comfort is key! Convocation ceremonies are typically two hours long, and you will be standing, walking and climbing stairs beforehand.
While your regalia is your main outfit, we recommend wearing business or business casual attire underneath with comfortable shoes.
Graduating students are welcome to wear cultural or identity-based academic stoles. Any new stoles must be endorsed by an official campus office or committee, and convocation must be notified.
For more specifics around particular graduating groups, including Indigenous graduates and those of a particular professional organization, visit the Convocation website.
Items not permitted with academic regalia include country flags, sports team fan items (flags, hats, scarves etc.), student group buttons or other items affixed to the gown or hood.
You may also wear honour cords that recognize your academic achievements. For more information about what you can wear, read our regalia guidelines.
The celebration doesn’t end after you cross the stage
After the ceremony, join the post-ceremony celebrations on the fourth floor of the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Photo stations will be set up in the Jet Ice Lounge and throughout the building. TMU memorabilia will also be available at the Campus Store.
Congratulations to all our graduates on this milestone! Share your convocation moments using the hashtag #AlwaysAlumni and tagging @torontomet on social media!
