Meet the 2019 Ryerson Gold Medal winners

Ryerson Today caught up with the graduates who received medals at spring convocation

The spring convocation season has officially ended. Ryerson grads are now navigating the workforce and settling into life after post-secondary education.

Ryerson Today caught up with a special group of graduates, the ones who received medals in acknowledgement of their outstanding academic accomplishments and contributions to the Ryerson community. Scroll through to learn more about these exemplary students and what’s next for them.

Ted Rogers School of Management – Sarah Oliver (Hospitality and Tourism)

Fun Fact: Oliver is jumping right into her career; she accepted a job with Microsoft starting this month.

Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Science – Hosam Sennah (Civil Engineering)

Fun Fact: Sennah’s research on innovative concrete structures has already been published.

Faculty of Arts – Zagros Habibi, Gold (Politics and Governance) and Joseph Rovetti, Silver (Psychology)

Fun Facts: Habibi earned the highest CGPA of any Politics and Governance graduate this year. Rovetti was initially an undeclared major, before choosing Psychology and then going on to receive the Governor General’s silver academic award.

Faculty of Community Services – Annita Velasque Moreira (Nursing)

Fun Facts: Moreira also received the Board of Governors Student Leadership Award and Medal, making her the recipient of not one, but two, of Ryerson’s top awards.

Faculty of Science – Niloufar Rostam Shirazi, Gold (Medical Physics) and Ehsan Ghassem Khani, Silver (Biomedical Sciences)

Fun Facts: Shirazi is staying at Ryerson and will pursuing a master’s degree in Biomedical Physics. Khani is pursuing a career in dentistry.

Vanessa Corkal stands in Denali National Park & Preserve, Alaska

Chang School of Continuing Education – Vanessa Corkal (Food Security)

Fun Facts: Corkal completed the Food Security program entirely from a distance.

Faculty of Communication and Design – Declan Keogh (Journalism)

Fun Facts: Keogh’s role model and inspiration is his mother, who is also a journalist.
