Welcome to The Cramb Group
We’re a multidisciplinary, award-winning group of researchers in the Department of Chemistry and Biology at Toronto Metropolitan University. We’re comprised of chemists and biochemists, with a splash of physics for good measure. Dr. David Cramb, Dean of the Faculty of Science leads our team, and we work out of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, our main lab at St. Michael’s Hospital.
With funding from our NSERC Discovery Grant, we explore various applications of nanotechnology to biomedicine – specifically, the use of nanomaterials for more effective diagnosis and treatment of diseases, especially cancer.
“Nanoparticles have the potential to selectively deliver chemotherapeutics to tumours via surrounding young blood vessels. If we could do that, it would be the holy grail of cancer therapy imagined since the ‘80s, now becoming possible through the potential of nanoparticles.
Our Goals
- New applications of nanoparticles for biotechnology
- Advanced cancer modelling through better understanding of its physiology and anatomy. The result: better translation from benchside to clinic.
- Better science curriculums that integrate creativity
- Mentoring young researchers to become independent, scientific thinkers
Our Guiding Principles
- Experiential Learning – The best way to learn science is by doing it. Making and testing hypotheses should be happening daily.
- Creativity – Hypothesis generation is a creative process. We foster creative thinking from a scientific perspective.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration – Collaboration across diverse fields lets us tackle problems more thoroughly.
