Making Content with Impact for 10 to 14 year olds: The Power of Positivity
On June 19th, 2024, we had a great event talking about Middle Schoolers!
PhD student Anne Cabildo shared current research on media consumption among 10- to 14-year-olds while CML Co-Director Kim Wilson shared the results of focus testing with this age group around positive messaging in programming.
There was a great presentation about Positive Psychology and Character Strengths in programming for this age. The feedback from middle schoolers around what they see (and don’t see) in their content gave content creators lots of insights and things to think about in future content creation. There were some impactful key learnings!
The event was followed up with breakout rooms discussing media literacy, character strengths and brainstorming ideas around making programming with impact for this age group.
We invite you to watch (or listen to) the recording of Anne's presentation below.
The Children’s Media Lab partnered with Dr Charles Davis/the Media Innovation Lab on this project. The research was sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
