Who We Are

The Children's Media Lab is a research initiative at Toronto Metropolitan University that bridges the gap between academic research and real-world application in children's media. We translate cutting-edge research into actionable insights for content creators, industry professionals and parents and teachers, fostering positive media experiences for children and youth through innovative research projects, educational programming, and collaborative think tank sessions.

Our Mission

The Children's Media Lab participates in and leads research that empowers today's content creators, parents, and teachers with evidence-based knowledge about children's media. We collaborate with academics at Toronto Metropolitan University and internationally, work directly with children's media industry professionals, and provide accessible educational programming that helps families and educators navigate the evolving digital media landscape.

Our Purpose

The Children's Media Lab exists to make research accessible and actionable. Academic research about children's media often remains locked in scholarly publications, never reaching the content creators, parents, and teachers who could benefit most from these insights. Similarly, industry professionals and families have valuable questions and experiences that could inform future research. We serve as the bridge, translating complex research into practical guidance while hosting conversations that bring together all stakeholders invested in children's media experiences.
