Modes of Course Delivery
The Quality Council has approved most programs at Toronto Metropolitan University for In-Person delivery, with only a few exceptions.
For those approved exceptions, Toronto Metropolitan University also offers courses in alternative modes of delivery to support innovative learning and teaching and best achieve student success. Some courses offer blended learning opportunities that combine the flexibility and accessibility of online components with meaningful in-person participation on campus. Other courses are offered entirely online.
Below are the modes of course delivery offered at Toronto Metropolitan University with brief definitions. For lists of the courses offered in each mode of delivery, visit the links below.
In-Person: A course that meets in-person at a scheduled time in a designated room. A small proportion of class meeting time can be online synchronous or online asynchronous.
Blended: Mostly In-Person: A course with both in-person and online components, where a majority of the contact hours are in-person. A smaller proportion is online (either online asynchronous or online synchronous).
Blended: Mostly Virtual: A course with both in-person and online components, where a majority of the contact hours are online (either online asynchronous or online synchronous). A smaller proportion is in-person.
Online Synchronous: A fully online course that has scheduled meeting times, with no on-campus designated room. A small proportion of class meeting time can be online asynchronous.
Online Asynchronous: A fully online course that does not have scheduled meeting times. Any synchronous opportunities offered by the instructor must be entirely optional for the learner.
