Universally Accessible
Children's Furniture
As part
of a larger scope of design investigation into accessible children's furniture,
this prototype for a universally accessible children's crib, attempts
to address the gap between furniture design at large and universally accessible
furniture design.
This crib prototype,
in addressing the user's diverse levels of mobility and the needs of people
with disabilities, aims to provide a durable, practical line of furniture
with a proper domestic aesthetic as opposed to institutional.
The prototype, a lightweight,
affordable, easy-to-move-and-assemble crib, is built out of Baltic birch
plywood and finished with a clear, water-based coating.
