Sharareh Taghipour, PhD, LEL
Associate Professor
Canada Research Chair in Physical Asset Management


Dr. Sharareh Taghipour is an Accociste Professor and the Director of the RRMR Lab at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University. She is Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Physical Asset Management. She obtained her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, and received her B.S.c. in Mathematics and Computer Science and her M.A.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, both from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. The focus of her research has been on physical asset management as well as on cancer progression modeling and screening optimization.

She has received numerous awards, including Ryerson University Collaborative Scholarly Research and Creative (SRC) Award (2021), Reliability and Maintainability Symposium – Best Paper Award (2020), YSGS Outstanding Contribution to Graduate Education Award (2020), Early Researchers Award- Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (2019), Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Physical Asset Management (2018), Ryerson University Early Research Career Excellence Award (2017), American Society for Quality (ASQ)-Reliability Division (RD) Best Paper Award (2016), Ryerson Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science Scholarly Research and Creative Activity (SRC) Award (2015), The Best Student Paper Award of the Tom Fagan Reliability & Maintainability Symposium (2011), The Best Student Paper Award of the American College of Clinical Engineering (2010), and Asset Management Council Postgraduate Research Award (2010) from Australia.

Dr. Taghipour has well-established partnerships and research collaborations with various industry partners from healthcare to energy, mining, transportation, utilities and manufacturing including Enbridge Gas, Axiom Group, Fiix, Intelerad Medical Systems, JANA, Admira Distributed Hybrid Energy Systems Inc., Vale Canada Ltd., CHEP Canada, Alstom France, Nova Chemicals, and Toronto General Hospital.

Mani Sharifi
Postdoctoral Fellow, Ryerson University

Mani Sharifi is a post-doctoral research fellow at Ryerson University, the Reliability, Risk, and Maintenance Research Laboratory (RRMR Lab). He holds a B.Sc. degree from Qazvin Islamic Azad University, M.Sc. degree from south Tehran branch Islamic Azad University, and Ph.D. degree from Tehran Research and Science Islamic Azad University in industrial engineering. He was the Managerial editor of Journal of Optimization in Industrial Engineering. He joined the Ryerson University's Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE) in November 2018. His area of interest includes reliability engineering, combinatorial optimization, statistical optimization as well as production scheduling.

Mohammad Reza (Babak) Bazargan Lari
Postdoctoral Fellow, Ryerson University

Babak Bazargan is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE). He graduated from Shiraz University with an honors B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, followed by earning his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Azad University, Tehran, Iran. He was a post-doctoral research fellow at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman. He has worked in different environments and has obtained broad knowledge about integrated resources management, robust multi-objective optimization, optimization of complex systems, machine learning, application of artificial intelligence-based techniques, conflict resolution methods, and optimal real-time decision-making. In August of 2019, he joined the Reliability, Risk, and Maintenance Research (RRMR) Laboratory.

Project: Developing a decision support tool to optimize manufacturing for productivity and safeguarding the workforce against COVID-19



Mageed Ghaleb
Postdoctoral Fellow, Ryerson University

Mageed Ghaleb is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE). He has joined the Reliability, Risk, and Maintenance Research (RRMR) Laboratory in January 2021 as a post-doctoral research fellow. He obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Ryerson University. His Ph.D. research was focused on developing real-time optimization algorithms for production scheduling and maintenance planning problems in advanced manufacturing systems. He has worked on various projects and has obtained broad knowledge in real-time decision-making, production scheduling, reliability engineering, maintenance planning, hybrid optimization algorithms, sustainability management, and machine learning applications in production planning and control.

Project: (1) Developing methods for measuring social, economic, and environmental impacts of maintenance activities for physical assets
(2) Development of smart real-time production scheduling models



Fatemeh Safaei
Postdoctoral Fellow, Ryerson University

Fatemeh Safaei is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE). She received her BSc, MSc as well as PhD degrees as the first-ranked student at the Statistics Department of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM), Mashhad, Iran. During her PhD, she joined the Charles Delaunay Institute at the University of Technology of Troyes (UTT), Troyes, France as a visiting researcher for one year. She received a one-year post-doctoral research fellowship from the Vice President for Research and Technology of FUM after finishing her Ph.D. She does research mainly in the applications of Statistics in Reliability Engineering, especially Maintenance Systems and Optimization with emphasis on multi-component systems such as offshore wind turbines. She has also experience in Machine learning, Anomaly detection, Neural networks, Data analysis, Operations research, Survival analysis, and Stochastic Processes.

Project: Failure modeling of repairable systems with data subject to left truncation and right censoring, and improving the models' accuracy using Bayesian techniques

PhD Student, Ryerson University

Tasquia is a Computer Science graduate and a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University. She completed her master's degree in computer science from Ryerson University in 2018 and currently works in the RRMR Lab. Her main interests include machine learning, forecasting modeling and predictive analytics.

Negin Asadayoobi
PhD Student, Ryerson University

Negin joined Ryerson University, department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) as a full-time PhD student in fall 2019. She completed her B.Sc. and M.Sc. studies both in Industrial Engineering department of Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. She currently works at Reliability, Risk and Maintenance Research Lab. focusing on Human-Robot collaboration under supervision of Professors Taghipour and Jaber. Her research interests include Multivariate Quality Control, Survival Analysis, Machine Learning and Reliability Engineering.

Aliakbar Eslamibaladeh
PhD Student, Ryerson University

Aliakbar Eslami Baladeh started his PhD at Ryerson University, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department in Fall 2020. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Industrial Engineering with focusing on safety and reliability engineering at Shahid Beheshti University and Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, respectively. He has gained five-year working experience in energy industry as a safety and reliability engineer. His research interest is around system reliability optimization in complex systems and risk engineering..

Sayaka Kamei
PhD Student, Ryerson University

Sayaka has started her PhD in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University in Winter 2021. She has a Master's degree in Data Science and Analytics from Ryerson University and currently works in the RRMR Lab. Her research interests include machine learning and predictive analysis for remaining useful life (RUL).

Hamed will start his PhD in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University in Fall 2021. He had a master degree in mechanical engineering from King Saud University in 2016. His main research interests include remaining useful life (RUL) prediction using neural networks. Machine learning and deep learning in scheduling optimization.
