The uniquely designed facility has sections for foam assembly and pattern preparation, melting and casting, foam polymerization, metallographic sample preparation and characterization.
The equipment includes gas fired and electric resistance melting furnaces, heat-treatment furnaces, liquid metal degasser, thermal analysis / data acquisition system, reduced pressure porosity tester, hydrogen analyzer, permanent molds, casting flasks, multiaxial mold vibrating platform, vibration analyzer, ceramic coating mixing unit, viscometer, forced-air drying oven, foam cutting and gluing facility, transmission optical microscopes, stereo-microscopes and image analysis software.

The research team also have access to facilities for heat treatment, tensile testing, metallographic preparation and evaluation (SEM, optical microscopes) and a full machine shop containing mills, lathes and drill presses.
