Dr. Hong Yu

Dr. Hong Yu is the Associate Dean, Graduate Programs. She is a well-respected researcher, teacher and colleague. During her 10 years of working at TRSM, she has witnessed how fast the research culture has evolved and how substantial developments have been made to the graduate programs.

“I’m honoured to be part of the changes and excited to play a role in building out world class graduate programs (including our Ph.D.) and in further nurturing our research and graduate student culture.”

Yu serves as a visiting professor and mentor to many top universities in China, and has made sure our TRSM students benefit from her network through impactful study trips and collaborative research projects.

“I see tremendous opportunities in achieving the TRSM vision and mission through societally relevant and rigorous research with local, national, and global impact, as well as experiential, innovative, and future-oriented graduate education.”

Yu has taught in our MBA and Master of Science in Management (MScM) programs, supervised/served as a committee member for over 70 graduate students, and has completed more than 18 funded research projects. She has published over 50 papers in peer reviewed journals or conferences. Yu co-authored a paper that won “Best Paper Award” in Europe and was the lead-author of a visual merchandising program that received “Education Technology Award” in the U.S.

As Director of the School of Retail Management, Yu has also played a central role in positioning the school to capitalize on global trends that have reshaped the industry.

Dr. Yu earned her B.Eng. from Tianjin Polytechnic University (China), M.Eng. from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (China), and her Ph.D. from Iowa State University in the US.
