Dr. Allen Goss
As Dr. Allen Goss begins his term as Associate Dean, Students, he says he has nothing but optimism for the direction TRSM is heading. “We have such positive momentum and our students are such great ambassadors for us,” says Goss. “I hope to continue our upward trajectory and continue to push the TRSM agenda forward.”
For Goss, a big part of this agenda involves managing the expansion of TRSM’s co-operative education option, which will be offered to most TRSM programs as of the 2016–2017 academic year.
“I’ve seen the real advantages and benefits of co-op,” says Goss.“It makes a profound difference in the student’s understanding of real-world business, and it works both ways – when our students get in front of employers, they sell themselves.”
Goss is an Associate Professor in the School of Accounting and Finance and has served as Chair of the Finance department. He is also the Academic Director of the National Institute on Ageing.
Goss says he is looking forward to overseeing Student Affairs because the students are the real driver of energy at TRSM. “This place runs six days a week, morning until night – you really have to see the energy here to believe it.
"There are over 30 student groups at TRSM, so there’s something for everyone,” says Goss. “And if there isn’t already a student group for you, start your own! You will find peers here that share your interest.”
Goss says TRSM’s location also plays a huge role in allowing students to get real business experience and build professional networks. “We are very fortunate to be in the heart of the business capital of Canada, which is a huge advantage for our students. And we don’t ignore our Bay Street location – we take advantage of it through constant engagement with industry experts. We are literally within walking distance of Canada’s major businesses and we are not complacent about it – we leverage our location to our advantage.”
“Our students are ready to hit the ground running when they graduate. The experiential learning they receive at TRSM, both in the classroom and through extracurriculars, positions our graduates to add value to organizations right away. Our best students can stand against the best students from any other school. I firmly believe that.”
Dr. Goss holds an MBA and PhD from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
