Supports for Black students

In July 2020, the university released its PDF fileAnti-Black Racism Campus Climate Review Report, outlining the experiences of Black students, faculty and staff on campus. The report contains recommendations for programming and spaces that centre the safety, wellbeing, and thriving of Black students. We recognize the many ways that anti-Black racism impacts mental health and wellbeing, and are committed to addressing these impacts on campus and beyond through the provision of culturally appropriate and accessible care.

Under the leadership of Black-identified counsellors at the CSDC, Eden Abraham and Krystal Warner, with collaboration and support from the counselling team, the Centre created pathways of care in the Spring of 2020 for Black-identified students. Black students are welcome to request counselling support provided by counsellors with a shared identity/background. The counselling team will work to ensure matching and prioritize equitable care where possible.

Black students seeking counselling support provided by one of our Black or BIPOC-identified counsellors are welcome to indicate this request when contacting our front desk to book an appointment, through emailing CSDC@ryerson.ca or calling 416-979-5195.
