New Policy Review: Student Names
This new policy will support the process for altering, deleting, substituting or adding a legal name and/or a chosen name to a student’s academic record.
Toronto Metropolitan University is committed to fostering an environment of inclusiveness and supporting students' chosen form of self-identification and recognizes that students may choose to use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. Students may therefore choose to be identified in the Student Administration System by their chosen first name which they would like to be addressed by at Toronto Metropolitan University and which will be used for internal University purposes, such as D2L, Zoom, Google Meet and class rosters.
Toronto Metropolitan University requires that students use their legal name on all legal records and official documents. All official documents produced by Toronto Metropolitan University for external use, such as but not limited to transcripts, parchments, and enrolment confirmations, will state the full, legal names (primary name) of students.
The policy will apply to all Undergraduate, Yeates School of Graduate Studies, Lincoln Alexander School of Law and G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education students at the University.
How to participate
We want to hear from you! Community members can review the new draft policy and procedures and provide feedback. This process will run from March 18th to March 29th, 2022.
