Collaborative SRC Award

Headshot of Michael Kolios

Michael Kolios

Department of Physics, Faculty of Science

Michael Kolios is a distinguished researcher who has contributed to our understanding of how nanobubbles interact with ultrasound, co-leading a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional team with Agata Exner from Case Western Reserve University. Their six-year collaboration helped solve the mystery of how nanobubbles can be used as ultrasound contrast agents and led to the testing of new applications in ultrasound imaging and therapy in Canadian and US hospitals. This joint work has led to 15 journal publications, contributed to the training of over 30 highly qualified personnel and has been supported through several grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
