Opeyemi Akanbi is an Assistant Professor in the School of Professional Communication at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is cross appointed to the Joint Graduate Program in Communication and Culture offered in partnership with York University. Her research areas are privacy, media regulation, labor and technology and the political economy of digital media.

Ope holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Fellow. She currently serves on the Board of the Labor Tech Research Network and the Canadian Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Her publications include articles in Media Culture and Society, the International Journal of Communication and Yale Law Journal Forum.

Research Interest

I am interested in the intersection of law, technology and communication. Within this broad area, I ask questions about privacy, media regulation and organizational management.
