Bala Venkatesh is a professor in the department of electrical, computer and biomedical engineering and academic director of the centre for urban energy at Ryerson University. He is appointed to the Ryerson University Board in 2021. Before joining Ryerson in 2008, he has been a faculty member in Anna University (India), Multimedia University (Malaysia), University of New Brunswick (Canada). He also has taught at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and worked in Transformer Division of Crompton Greaves Limited (India).
He led the NSERC Energy Storage Technology Network, a pan-Canadian strategic network worth $8.5 million from 2015 – 2021.
He has received Sarwan Sahota Award, Dean’s award for service, department award for teaching excellence and department award for research excellence. He has served as IEEE Toronto section Power and Energy Society chapter president for several years in the past.
