Selasi Dorkenoo Co-Authors Report on Toronto's Digital Divide
As a 4th-year Geography student, Selasi Dorkenoo took an innovation and entrepreneurship course and got involved with the Ryerson Leadership Lab. The Lab now called on her to contribute to the report "Mapping Toronto's Digital Divide (external link, opens in new window) ", co-published by Toronto's Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship.
The report finds that almost 40% of all Toronto households, and 50% of low-income and elderly households, have lower download speeds than the national target of 50Mbps. In times of pandemic stay-at-home orders, slow Internet can be a burden, as noted in the Toronto Star's article (external link, opens in new window) about the report.
While completing her BA in Geographic Analysis and MSA in Spatial Analysis at Ryerson, Selasi held work placements as varied as GIS Analyst at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Data Analyst at the Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity, and Data Visualization Specialist at St. Michael's Hospital. She now works fulltime as Data Analyst with Environics Analytics.
