Fashion Zone Black Fashion Innovators Awards Overview and Winner Statement
This past summer, we had our FZ Amazon Black Fashion Innovators Award 2.0! We are so excited to be announcing the winner in this blog, along with a short winner's statement!
September 30, 2022
Powered by Amazon, the Amazon Black Fashion Innovators Award provides Fashion Zone members and alumni who identify as Black with a total of two prizes annually: $10,000 in Spring 2022 and 2023, and $2500 in Fall 2022 and 2023, along with one free year of incubation and business support in the Fashion Zone, valued at $3000.
After careful consideration, Michelle Nuamah, founder of Nuama (external link) , was selected as the winner! The Fashion Zone extends a huge congratulations to Michelle on winning the award! Your hard work and drive is extremely inspiring and impressive, and we are excited to see what more you will accomplish in your entrepreneurial journey. Here’s what Michelle had to say about winning the award:
“It’s such an honour to receive this award. Creating equitable spaces where Black founders have equal opportunities to grow and flourish are so necessary. With that, we look forward to continuing to streamline our product development and brand awareness through participating in pop-ups such as Made Inland. Keep an eye out to shop NUAMA in-person at Made Inland in December.”
NUAMA is a contemporary label and an ode to traditional sensibilities influenced by the intersection of West African visual culture and the Western landscape.
Guided by a perennial ethos–heritage, craftsmanship, details are combined through storytelling, culminating in garments designed to be lived-in, rediscovered and continually cherished. To keep up, check out Nuama’s Instagram!
