Experiential Opportunities

Experiential learning is the backbone of our BA program. In addition to including experiential learning opportunities throughout our curriculum more generally, our second-year practicum courses (Writing in the Arts; Making Digital Work; Writing Poetry; Writing Fiction; Grammar for Editors; Making Little Magazines and Open Topics in Experiential Learning) give every English student the opportunity to work in an area of applied literary knowledge. In their final year, students may also take the Independent Research Project course elective (ENG 907) as a capstone to their experiential learning at Ryerson.  

First year students can apply to participate in the Faculty of Arts co-op progam starting in their second year or English students may elect to pursue an internship independently for credit in ENG 960 Internship.

BA English students have many extra-curricular experiential learning opportunities available to them; in some cases, these are voluntary, but students may also apply for a limited number of paid research assistantships through TMU's Work on Campus, opens in new window program. Undergraduates may provide research assistance in faculty projects; contribute to the annual production of The White Wall Review, TMU's Journal of Art and Literature; and participate in activities at the Children's Literature Archive, the Centre for Digital Humanities, and the Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre, among other possibilities.
