Looking back on some touching moments from Convocation

Here’s how grads felt about celebrating their milestone in person

This year, Convocation was an event to remember. After two years of virtual ceremonies, the university welcomed back this year’s graduates, as well as those from 2020 and 2021 to celebrate their achievements in person. We hosted 8,900 grads at 20 ceremonies this month - an increase from the 5,800 grads at 12 ceremonies in 2019.

Now that all the ceremonies have wrapped, we’re taking a look back at how some students marked the joyous occasion on social media.

Josel Angelica Gerardo, bachelor of arts `21 graduate, came back to celebrate. Gerardo was featured in a previous TorontoMet Today story for receiving the 2021 Dennis Mock Student Leadership University-wide Award and was the student speaker for the Student Experience Awards event. She tweeted (external link)  about sharing the Convocation moment with Asian women leaders Chancellor Janice Fukakusa and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Pamela Sugiman:

Grace Li, who graduated with a bachelor’s of arts in 2020, took to Instagram (external link)  to reflect on her four years at the university:

Winston Sih graduated with a master’s of arts at The Creative School in 2021 and tweeted (external link)  about how grateful he was to the university that he was able to attend Convocation in-person:
