The Fashion Zone’s Summer Recap: Programming, Fashion Contests, and More!
As the summer comes to an end, we thought we’d put together a summer recap to highlight the amazing programming and events that went on at the Fashion Zone! Here are some of the things we did over the summer.
Fashion Zone Summer Programming
The Black Fashion Innovators Network
- The Black Fashion Innovation Network was a virtual space created for our black founders to build community, support and uplift. It welcomed individuals to share stories and address the lack of representation in the fashion industry.
The Student Network
- This was an interdisciplinary network of students eager to learn about the fashion Industry and grow their skills and knowledge. Whether students were curious about starting their own business in Fashion Sustainability, Tech, merchandising, etc, or they wanted to work with Fashion businesses, this student network allowed them to expand their experience!
The Sustainability Stream
- The sustainability stream was a 6 week program that guided individuals through building a sustainable business in the fashion industry. The FZ provided mentorship, instruction and a community of persons striving towards common goals in building a business that is authentically sustainable.
Brand Strategy Workshop Series with AndSo
- During this first of three workshops, partners Jake Bogoch and Shawn Topp from creative consultancy AndSo explored the process of brand building. From strategy to creative expression, individuals will learn how to uncover their brand purpose and communicate it with clarity.
The FZ x CGI Fashion Contest
In recognition of India’s 76+ years of independence, the Consulate General of India has partnered with the Fashion Zone to connect with designers across the GTA. Designers will have the opportunity to curate a garment with Indian textiles and present their work at a prestigious fashion show.
Congratulations to Charlotte Carbone and Cassandra Myers and their fashion garment titled “Paisley Skin”! Their garment design was a brilliant fuse between decolonization, sustainability, and everything in between. Another big round of applause goes to all the other contest participants. You are ALL winners and your hard work won’t go unnoticed!

The Zone Street Fair
The Zone Street fair took place at the end of summer. There were student entrepreneurs and companies showcasing their work and selling items! Prizes were also given out, including gift cards, free food, t-shirts, tote bags, and a surprise gift basket. Extending a big thank you to everyone that came and supported all our entrepreneurs and companies!
What’s Next at the Fashion Zone?
At the Fashion Zone, we are currently going over applications for our Fall 2022 Intake, and are excited to be welcoming teams to the FZ family soon!
