Andrew (Hyounsoo) Kim completed his BA (Specialized Hons) at York University. He earned his Post-Graduate Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions from Durham College and an MA in Experimental Psychology from Carleton. He is currently a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary and a Psychology Resident at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre’s Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program.

Andrew’s programme of research focuses on elucidating the transdiagnostic mechanisms of substance and behavioral addictions. The ultimate aim of his research is in developing transdiagnostic treatment model of addictions and their comorbidities (i.e., concurrent disorders). Andrew is also interested in examining the addictive potential of emerging technologies and the intersection between gambling and gaming (e.g., loot boxes).

Andrew has published 53 peer-reviewed research articles in various high-impact journals such as Journal of Clinical Medicine, Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, Schizophrenia Research, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. He has also been awarded research grants as a co-principal and co-investigator totalling over $800,000. He is passionate about fostering partnerships and has developed several international collaborations in Brazil, Australia, Korea, and Hungary.
