Judith K. Bernhard (PhD, University of Toronto) is a Professor in Early Childhood Studies at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.
Her research has focused on the needs of children and families in early childhood education and care settings, with a particular emphasis on how the field responds to diversity and inclusion.
Working with Dr. Alma Flor Ada and F. Isabel Campoy on transformative literacy projects.
Issues related to the social concepts of diversity and inclusion form the foundation of the research I conduct on early childhood education and care. The term diversity includes an understanding that each child’s position is affected by mediations of “race”, class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, language, religious beliefs, ability, and migration status.
